Union County Department of Job and Family Services
is designated as the Workforce Investment Agency for Union County.
The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 provides a framework for meeting the
needs of business, job seekers, and those who want to further their
careers. Local workforce activities emphasize:
- Training and employment programs designed at
the local level, where the needs of business and individuals are best
understood.
- Convenient access to employment, education,
training, and information services at a single community location.
- Customer choice and control over training and
career development.
- Business leadership in assuring that the
local system prepares people for current and future jobs.
The local Workforce Policy Board is made up
of private sector business and, in partnership with local elected
officials, guides the development of local policies and
programs. A subcommittee of the Board is the Youth Council which
develops the youth portion of the local plan, recommends eligible service
providers, and coordinates youth programs and initiatives.
